As the new year gets into full swing I feel compelled to remind everyone that the purpose of a business is to fund your life by design. The key word in that sentence is YOUR…..life by design. Far too often I see people setting goals imposed on them by well intentioned friends, social media, and even some that are completely arbitrary numbers. Those who aren’t clear on what they would like their life to look like are far more susceptible to external influence and more likely to end up with a goal that isn’t aligned with their life by design.
Sometimes not aligning your business goals and activities to support the life you want to live causes all sorts of challenges. Anything from burn out, family problems, to health problems and more. When someone has a goal that is completely arbitrary or imposed on them from some external source I often see a ton of guilt associated with a goal, accomplished or not. Conversely when a goal is built around funding a life by design the stress goes away. Confidence rises. There is an attachment to the goal and a “nothing is going to stop me” attitude.
Some things to consider are:
- Does my business goal allow me to live my life by design?
- Do the demands of my business cost me my relationships, mental or physical health, or anything else?
- When I hit my goal will there be enough income to fund my life by design?
- Are my personal expenses so out of control it doesn’t matter how much income I have?
- Am I clear on what I want in LIFE?
The moment you decide to live your best life possible and you take the time to create clarity around what that actually means building a real estate business becomes as simple as a math problem. You simply determine how many pieces of business is required to fund that life and you get to work.
