Is your goal to be efficient or effective? One of the largest challenges I see with business owners is their desire to be efficient. In fact, many will spend days or even weeks looking for the most efficient way to complete a task they haven’t started. Efficiency only comes AFTER you’ve taken action. Yes, it could be messy and sloppy at first however, if you haven’t started down the path it’s impossible to predict all of the obstacles you may see along the way. Sometimes effective is sloppy in the beginning before you find the efficiencies. On larger teams something you may notice is operations and sales fighting over efficient and effective. Operations would typically want to create efficiencies before we start and sales people usually look for effective. When there is an understanding between the two departments that we’re going to start something new. Our goal is to be effective and get results. The operations role is to help us take that effectiveness and supercharge it with efficiency. In summary, lead with effective then find the efficiency.
