I’m on vacation this week in Marco Island / Naples, Florida. I plan to move here in a few years, buy a fishing boat, and spend the weekends getting paid to take tourists out on the Gulf of Mexico to catch fish.

If you’ve been around me any time at all you’ve likely heard me talk about the importance of scheduling your personal time off before anything else. Sitting here with a clear mind I’m reminded how these trips aren’t just to my benefit. Some of my best coaching weeks have followed a vacation. These trips benefit me, my family, friends, and yes my clients. I owe it to all of these people to keep my batteries fully charged and not phoning it in at 80%. Many of you reading this are in real estate. I bet if you really pay attention to it some of your best work has happened after taking some time off.

In some states, agents have a fiduciary responsibility to their clients. (Not Florida) If you’re operating at 80% because it’s been 3 years since you‘ve had downtime to recharge your batteries, are you really looking out for the best interest of your clients? I’d argue, no. You owe it to your clients to be at 100% even if that means taking a week off every quarter to recharge. Perhaps it means protecting your day off each week to recharge.

To keep this short and sweet I’ll ask a simple question. What are you doing to recharge your batteries to keep you operating at peak performance?
